The word “gaijin” is simple. The structure behind it is not.
This site was created to examine that structure — linguistically, historically, culturally, and philosophically — without grievance and without romanticism. The goal is clarity, not argument.

Bradley L. Bartz is an entrepreneur, writer, and long-time observer of Japan. His work spans technology, publishing, and cultural commentary.
Having spent decades navigating the practical and social dimensions of being “inside” and “outside” in different contexts, he brings both lived experience and analytical distance to the subject.
This project is not autobiography. It is architecture.
